‘DAP broke rules with rocket symbol’

Only PKR’s eye can be used, says Mohamad

SEREMBAN: DAP may have checkmated itself by deciding to drop the use of its rocket logo and opt for PKR’s eye symbol in GE14, says Negri Sembilan Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

“I have been made to understand that DAP has realised this mistake. In some of their ceramah, they brought along their rocket symbol so that their supporters would know they still exist.

“This is a violation of election laws because they have agreed to use PKR’s symbol,” he said after handing over the certificate of fitness for occupation to 92 housebuyers in Taman Seri Mambau near here.

Mohamad said DAP’s move to use the PKR logo to create a Malay tsunami may have also backfired.

“I don’t see a Malay tsunami happening. In fact, DAP’s move may cause the party to lose votes from its Chinese supporters,” he said.

Asked about a “revelation” by an assistant producer of DAP’s Ubah.tv that the party would distribute tens of thousands of slanderous videos and pamphlets against Barisan, Mohamad said he was not surprised by this.

“What is more important is that we need to quickly rebut the slander with facts and figures that are easy to understand. We cannot sit back and plead with them not to upload lies and other propaganda,” he said.

Citing an example, Mohamad said DAP should explain how it would finance the projects and goodies it promised in its manifesto when it wanted to cut off revenue from the Goods and Services Tax.

Earlier, Mohamad said his administration had worked hard to revive the Taman Seri Mambau project which had been abandoned since 2004.

“I promised to help revive this project and I am happy to have delivered,” he said.

In Kuala Lumpur, the Federal Territory Barisan Youth chief urged the Election Commission (EC) to act against Pakatan Harapan parties that use any logo apart from PKR’s.

“This is because the EC already specified that if a candidate intends to compete on a PKR ticket, only that party’s logo may be used for campaigning purposes,” said Datuk Mohd Razlan Rafii.

“This means other party symbols cannot be used, including DAP, Amanah and Pribumi logos.

“However, DAP has been using its rocket logo in ceramah and campaigns in areas such as Simpang Kuala, Alor Setar and others.

“This is against the rules set by the EC, which must deploy its enforcement teams to monitor the situation on the ground,” he said after lodging a report at the Federal Territory EC office yesterday.
