PETALING JAYA: A lorry driver was arrested in Subang Jaya after hitting about 15 vehicles while trying to escape a police check in Kajang.

A video of the incident is going viral on social media.

The lorry had a flag of a political party on it.

In the incident yesterday afternoon, police tried to stop the overloaded lorry earlier at Batu 9 Cheras, Kajang.

Instead of complying with the instruction, the driver sped off – and the police car gave chase after calling for back-up from the Subang Jaya district police headquarters.

Six patrol cars and two patrol bikes joined in the pursuit, but as the chase dragged on, police decided to shoot at the lorry’s tyres to bring it to a stop.

Despite the damaged wheels, the lorry driver pressed on, but could not get too far.

Still, the driver refused to stop and led police on a chase all the way to USJ 1, Subang Jaya.

In the process of trying to escape, the lorry hit a row of cars parked by the road shoulder in USJ 1.

When the lorry finally came to a halt, onlookers pulled the driver out and beat him up. Police arrived at the scene and arrested the driver.

When contacted Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said the case had been classified as attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code.

Members of the public are urged not to speculate on the incident as an investigation is ongoing.
