BAGAN DATUK: Barisan Nasional-friendly parties and NGOs are backing the coalition to ensure a victory in GE14, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Barisan deputy chairman said the support of such parties, including the Malaysian Indian Justice Party (MIJP) and NGOs nationwide, would give Barisan the boost it needs.

“Despite not being full members of Barisan, these Barisan-friendly parties are working tirelessly with us to ensure our victory.

“The same can be said about various NGOs nationwide,” he said during a visit to MIJP’s headquarters here yesterday.

He said Barisan was committed to helping all Malaysians, regardless of their race or background.

“Malaysians from all walks of life must be taken care of. The Barisan manifesto covers all Malaysians,” he added.

On the last day of campaigning, he said it was time to look forward, adding: “Let’s leave the past behind as the day of decision is upon us. I want everyone to vote.”

On Monday night, he called on Malaysians to reject “politics of lies”.

Barisan, he said, focused on what it could do for the “rakyat instead of attacking our opponents with slanderous lies”.

“Those who come to our area for the sake of the election and defame others for the sake of getting votes must be rejected at all costs.

“They are not welcome in Hutan Melintang, let alone Bagan Datuk,” he said at a talk in the Hutan Melintang town centre.

Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is defending the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat, urged the constituents to give Barisan a bigger mandate, including the state seats of Hutan Melintang (contested by Datuk Khairuddin Tarmizi) and Rungkup (contested by Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya).

“This is the time for the people here to be united and give their full support to Barisan,” he said.

In GE13, Barisan won Bagan Datuk and Rungkup, but lost Hutan Melintang.

Dr Ahmad Zahid said Barisan had plans for the area, adding: “We want to spur development to benefit the people regardless of their race and background.”
