Liow has ‘a good feeling’ about Bentong’s future

-

BENTONG: Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai says he has seen a warmer response from constituents this time compared to the last general election.

The MCA president and incumbent Bentong MP said the people are no longer giving Barisan Nasional candidates the cold shoulder.

Gesturing at people having breakfast at a food court here, Liow said: “As you can see today, they are friendly towards us as we engage them in amiable small talk.

“It was very different last time, when their facial expression and hostility said it all.”

Liow took the changes as a positive sign.

“I have a good feeling about the future of Bentong,” he said.

He said a similar trend was also observed in other constituencies nationwide, and he hoped that Chinese votes would return to Barisan.

The past one-and-a-half weeks of intense campaigning saw Liow visiting all corners of Bentong, where Malays form 46.48% of the 67,514 constituents, Chinese 41.71% and Indians 9.16%.

He promised to develop Bentong into the satellite town and back garden of Greater Kuala Lumpur by improving infrastructure while retaining its green lung.

As party president, Liow also travelled to other states including Kedah, Perak, Selangor and Johor, to support his colleagues and meet the locals.

He urged voters to remain level-headed when casting their votes.

“We need a government that is experienced, responsible and has succeeded in kick-starting national transformation. This government is the Barisan government,” he said.

Choosing Barisan is choosing to bring Malaysia forward, he added.

“The foundation of our transformation programme has been laid out. It is time for us to spread our wings and soar.

“A Barisan victory will see the country’s economy growing by leaps and bounds,” he said.

Liow said Barisan and MCA would hold the people’s opinions and requests close to their hearts.

He added that the Government under Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak championed meritocracy to take society to greater heights.

The Opposition, on the other hand, would bring “Mahathirism” back, which was a step backward, he said.

Liow’s GE14 campaign trail ended yesterday with a Ceramah Sayangi Bentong (Love Bentong Talk) at Jalan Chui Yin in the town centre.

The MCA supporters chanted “support MCA, support Tiong Lai”, followed by “zhan, zhan, zhan (fight)!”. They waved the blue Barisan flags enthusiastically, giving the event a carnival-like atmosphere.

In his speech, Liow said he wanted to bring love and care to Bentong for all to build a warm and developed society.

“We reject hatred and negativity. Choose Barisan to reject Mahathirism,” he said.
