A NINE-YEAR-OLD girl ended up with swollen and bruised eyes due to her stepmother’s frequent “campaign of terror”.

A video footage showing the girl, who is from Heilongjiang of Suihua city in China, covered with injuries, including marks on her neck, has been making its rounds on China’s social media.

According to Oriental Daily, the girl was heard in the video being asked if she was abused by her stepmother.

She replied yes, saying that her stepmother often scolded and hit her.

A woman in red later appeared in the video, and the girl became frightened and shut her mouth.

When other people questioned the woman why she had beaten the girl, she denied doing so.

Instead, she asked: “Who said that? Who saw me beating her up?”

According to local media, the police stepped in to investigate after receiving reports from the public.

The woman, known as Lee, was questioned and later arrested.

The girl has been sent to hospital for treatment. Her father has a job away from home in the Qiqihar municipality.
