Education system must adopt technology
MOHD Farhaan Shah’s article “Education the key to the future” ( The Star, May 8) should be compulsory reading for the general public and education providers alike. There’s no doubt that our education system must evolve to make full use of the technological advances available, otherwise we will be left behind in the competitive global environment.
Our universities and colleges must ensure that our educational system produces a competent workforce to meet the goals of TN50 (National Transformation).
Transformation can only come about if our education system actively adapts to the changing needs of students and also the expectations of employers and society in a fast-changing world.
Employers, whether in the private or public sector, have to ensure that their employees are geared towards technology-savvy communication and creative or innovative skills. Thus, the responsibility falls on higher learning institutions to teach and equip their graduates with these skills.
These institutions must initiate and consolidate relationships with employers and teach their students the knowledge and skills that would best equip them to meet not only the challenges in the workplace but also the pressure of the global and competitive marketplace.
Reshaping and revamping our education system is critical if we wish to achieve the Education 4.0 Framework goals outlined in the Education Blueprint for Higher Education 2015-2025.
Hence, to create a more successful Malaysia, our 21st-century education must be focused on how to leverage the ever-evolving technology to enhance the creative and thinking minds of our people.
