There’s no stopping three siblings from casting their ballot for the 14th time

KUCHING: Three sisters, the youngest in her 80s, who have voted since Independence, proudly voted in Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency.

Suyong Labor, 94, Hairiah, 90, and Enong, 82, showed up at 11am to cast their ballot SK Merpati Jepang – where Barisan incumbent Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof is involved in a three-cornered fight with PKR and PAS.

Suyong and Hairiah were brought in wheelchairs to the Election Commission counter, while the youngest sibling mastered enough strength to walk.

The three sisters were the younger siblings of five. Their two elder brothers have passed away.

There was a little bit of chaos for the three when they earlier arrived at the wrong polling centre, but volunteers quickly helped send the sisters to the correct venue.

“My eldest sister was the one who always encouraged us to vote. She was the most excited today and reminded us of polling day.

“In fact, we have never failed to cast our votes since Independence,” Enong told reporters.

The siblings, who live together at a house at Kampung No 2 Datuk Ajibah Abol, Satok, are taken care by Suyong’s daughter.

“We were sent here (polling centre) by party members,” Enong continued.

She advised those yet to register as voters to immediately do so.

Enong also hoped the country would maintain its peace, saying multiracial harmony is very important.
