‘Pakatan must make good on promises’

-

RAUB: Voters have pinned their hopes on Pakatan Harapan and their support cannot be taken for granted, says newly elected Raub MP Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji.

He said Pakatan must make good on its promises.

“The people want to see a change. “Otherwise, in the next general election, Barisan Nasional may wrest back power,” he said in an interview.

The former Mentakab assemblyman defeated Barisan’s Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun with a majority of 3,159 votes.

Tengku Zulpuri said the people would be observing and gauging Pakatan’s performance.

“In the next GE, voters will no longer vote en bloc based on the party’s logo but the candidates.

“So we must show the people that we can deliver,” he said.

Tengku Zulpuri said immediate plans were to hold small thanksgiving events to get public feedback on the pressing issues affecting them.

“I will then draft out action plans to meet their needs with the support of the Federal Government.

“Our top leaders should also see to it that all pledges in the manifesto are implemented in stages to lessen the burden of the people,” he said.

To a question if he was ready to be appointed to a Cabinet post, he said it was up to the top leadership.

Tengku Zulpuri said he would have no problem working with the Barisan assemblymen for the Dong and Batu Talam states seats which are under his constituency.

“Although Pahang is still under Barisan rule, the state does not have enough resources and needs extra allocation every year.

“If not, the state government cannot sustain its expenditure and will collapse in six to 12 months,” he said.
