Jempol candidate to file petition against EC

-

SEREMBAN: Pakatan Harapan Jempol parliamentary candidate Kamarulzaman Kamdias, who lost in the election, says he will file an election petition against the Election Commission (EC).

“Based on information collected from Borang 14, I won the seat.

“But when the result was announced by EC, I lost by a majority of more than 1,600 votes.

“We have all the evidence, based on the forms we got from a total of 140 streams from all the polling stations.

“EC has to explain where these extra votes came from,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Before EC announced the results, Kamarulzaman said they should have been verified and signed off by his counting agent.

“But EC just made the announcement in a hurried manner, without notifying my agent,” he claimed.

He also said information provided by EC earlier showed that Pakatan won the seat.

“This was shown on the screens EC provided at the counting centre, stating Pakatan had won. Other media also used that information.

“Until yesterday afternoon, the information still showed that Pakatan won the seat,” he added.

Kamarulzaman also claimed that he was barred from entering the counting centre.

“My car was stopped at the gate. Only my agent could enter.

“When my agent asked why the announcement was delayed, the officials said there were technical issues with the forms,” he said.

In a threecornered fight, Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Salim Sharif won Jempol with 26,819 votes.
