PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has apologised to his supporters for letting them down and called for a smooth transition of power.

Posting on Instagram with a picture of the Malaysian flag, he also promised to hold the new Pakatan Harapan government accountable.

“To those that still support us, I am sorry we let you down. To those that did not, I respect your decision. We tried our best. But our best was simply not good enough.

“I love my country. And I have had the honour of serving my country. And it is because of my abiding love for Malaysia that I also respect the will of our people,” he said.

Malaysia, he added, could only survive if it observed a smooth and orderly transfer of power.

“For without the rule of law, we are a nation bereft of justice and fair play,” said Khairy, promising to do his best as Opposition MP.

“I will hold you accountable on behalf of our people as a member of the Opposition. Just as you did previously.

“Let us show the world that Malaysia can reunite after all that has been said and done. For all of us to build a better tomorrow,” he said.

He also congratulated Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman on Twitter.

“Congratulations, YB. Please look after our youth. Over to you now,” he tweeted yesterday.

On Twitter, Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan urged Malaysians to allow Pakatan the time to conduct their business of electing their prime minister.

“But their new PM’s first business is to abolish GST and implement the promise to lower the cost of living immediately,” Abdul Rahman said. “I wish them the best of luck. “Despite this loss, we shall rebuild the party’s strength to fight another day. Stay strong.

“Let’s be an effective Opposition and ensure PH keeps their 100-day promises!” he added.

Let us show the world that Malaysia can reunite after all that has been said and done.
