Zambry: BN can now form Perak govt

He wants to seek an audience with Perak Ruler to carry on with his job

IPOH: Perak Barisan Nasional has enough seats to form the state government.

Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir’s media and communication director, Nizamuddin Isa, read a statement by Dr Zambry who declared that the Barisan had obtained enough seats to form the state government.

“Barisan Nasional has 27 seats while several parties which contested under the PKR ticket gained 29 seats, with PAS winning three.

“However, I am happy to inform that Barisan has now obtained enough seats to form the government,” he added.

Nizamuddin declined to reveal how many seats the Barisan had as of now.

He said Dr Zambry would seek an audience with Sultan Nazrin Muizzudin Shah to inform him of the latest development.

“He will seek Sultan Nazrin’s consent to form the state government in accordance with the state laws,” he said.

The day started with Perak gripped by an air of uncertainty with attempts by the Barisan to woo PAS to form the state government.

None of the parties had won a simple majority of 30 out of 59 state seats.

A source from Barisan said discussions with PAS had begun.

It is understood that a lot was at stake for the Barisan which had planned many projects under its Amanjaya Blueprint.

These included development of new industrial zones by the Perak Development Corp such as the Perak Hi-Tech Industrial Park in Chemor and Perak Heavy Industrial Park in Bagan Datuk.

The Southern Perak Region is another development project that could have been affected.

With Pakatan Harapan taking over the Federal Government, the plan to build a new airport in Seri Iskandar looks to be in jeopardy.

Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming said the party would not engage in any discussion with PAS.

A Pakatan official said it would hold a state-level meeting once the federal government had been formed.

Another senior politician said several Pakatan representatives had met with the Perak Sultan.

“I don’t think PAS will join us, but with the majority of seats, Pakatan should be able to form the state government,” he added.

Perak PAS Commissioner Razman Zakaria claimed they have had “unofficial” meetings with both Pakatan and Barisan on the possibility of forming the state government.

“We will be meeting with the central committee tomorrow to set the conditions for both sides to conform with if they want to form the state government together.

“It is mainly the need to conform with our conditions to look after the welfare and safety of Muslims,” he told a press conference.

Razman said both Pakatan and Barisan could not form the state government on their own.

“We have three state seats and we are the kingmakers.

“To work with us, our aims cannot be stopped,” he said, adding that it could take at least another week to form the state government.
