GEORGE TOWN: The Pakatan Harapan government has not set a date for the swearing-in of its chief minister in Penang.

A source said they would wait for Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who is DAP secretary-general, to return from Kuala Lumpur before deciding on the next move.

“Forming the Federal Government is more important than anything else.

“He (Lim) did not give any instruction before leaving for Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

The source said Lim and Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow would decide on the most suitable candidate to lead the state.

“Once it has been decided, the state Pakatan Harapan would call for a meeting among its elected representatives before making a final call,” he said.

It is not known yet whether Lim would continue as chief minister for a third term or take up a minister’s post. It is speculated that Chow would replace him if he opts to serve in the Federal Government.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that the date for the swearing-in will be announced the latest by tomorrow.

State secretary Datuk Seri Farizan Darus was quoted as saying that the date would be announced by the Chief Minister’s office.

Meanwhile, Penang MCA chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng said he accepted the people’s decision in handing a landslide victory to Pakatan in Penang.

“This is part and parcel of democracy. Those who won, please keep your promise and serve the people,” he said.

Tan said it was a Malaysian tsunami that saw all the Barisan Nasional candidates in Penang swept to the wayside.

He said among the issues that cost them the election was the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax.
