New Melaka CM ready to face brickbats
MELAKA: The state’s 11th Chief Minister Adly Zahari is willing to accept any form of criticism, including from Barisan Nasional lawmakers in the state.
Adly said the state government was formed through a democratic process and he was willing to face brickbats from his predecessors.
“This is a government built by the people and we are compelled to respond to any of their doubts and discontentments,” he said at the press conference soon after the swearing-in ceremony in front of Melaka Governor Tun Dr Mohd Khalil Yaakob yesterday.
Hundreds of supporters gathered at Seri Negeri cheering Adly as he was escorted to his office in his official car.
Former chief minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron was also present at the ceremony.
Adly said he planned to reduce the number of exco members but would delegate them with significant portfolios.
Currently, there are 11 exco members and an equal number of deputies.
Adly also assured key officials of the state that he would not embark on drastic re-designations and would evaluate their performance under the previous administration before deciding on the matter.
Adly also revealed that China-related project like the Melaka Gateway would only be discontinued if it doesn’t benefit the locals.
The 47-year-old engineer is also state Amanah chairman and father of seven children – two boys and five girls.
