Lee to focus on serving Cheka constituents

-

LIPIS: Despite winning the Cheka state seat here, Pahang MCA assistant organising secretary Lee Ah Wong is not in the mood for celebration.

The retired principal of SMJK Chung Hwa here said he would focus on serving the constituents over the next five years.

Lee’s restraint was due to his party’s heavy defeat in the 14th General Election.

“I am new in politics and have much to learn from other leaders, especially Datuk Fong Koong Fuee, who served five terms here.

“I would seek his advice and guidance on how best to carry out my duties and responsibilities as an effective rep,” he said in an interview.

In GE14, Lee defeated PAS and PKR candidates with a razor-thin margin of 202 votes.

The father of four children aged between 26 and 31 said his top priority is to set up a proper service centre.

“I want to be easily reachable and accessible to the people even when I am not around.

“So a full-time staff member will be helpful to receive people and their complaints on pressing issues,” said the Lipis MCA division publicity bureau chief.

Lee, 62, said he will go around meeting village security and development committees, NGOs and community leaders to find out their needs and aspirations.

He said most bread-and-butter issues have been looked into, including education and business opportunities, and that there are ample public amenities there.

Lee said as Cheka is a small town, he has no problem getting connected with the locals and highlighting matters with the relevant local authorities.

Cheka is one of two state seats as well as a parliamentary seat won by MCA in the polls.
