Swearing-in of MB postponed as Regent wants to meet new reps

PEKAN: The Regent of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said there is no problem despite the postponeme­nt of the swearing-in of the new Mentri Besar.

He said the postponeme­nt was because he needed some time to get to know all the new state assembly- men who had won in the general election.

“I just feel it should be delayed for a while. I need some time. There is no problem at all,” he said after presiding over an investitur­e ceremony in conjunctio­n with the Sultan of Pahang’s birthday here yesterday.

State Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob was expected to be sworn in yesterday as Mentri Besar for the fifth term.

However, the press were told that the ceremony has been delayed.

Later, it was announced that the ceremony was postponed to an undetermin­ed date.

It was also learnt that Tengku Abdullah had met with Pakatan Harapan and PAS assemblyme­n on Friday.

When asked on this, Tengku Abdullah said he wanted to get to know each of them.

“There are a lot of new faces. I always like to meet people, ask about them like where they are from There’s no other agenda,” he added.

Pahang is one of the few remaining states still held by Barisan after the elections.

The state Barisan won with a simple majority of 25 seats, while Pakatan Harapan and PAS made up the Opposition side, winning nine and eight seats respective­ly.
