Top-class field expected

Preparations for Qualifying School going according to plan

THE OneAsia Tour 2018 Qualifying School, to be staged at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Golf & Country Club (SAAS GCC) in Shah Alam from May 28 to June 1, is expected to draw a field of between 50 and 60 players.

This was the view of OneAsia’s head of media and sponsorship, Nick Atkinson, who added that preparations for the event were going according to plan.

“We’ll be updating the situation next week,” said Atkinson. “The last two weeks have been rather hectic, but all for good reason. The quality of the field should be very good as we anticipate some of the region;s best players turning up.”

Meanwhile, the Tour has secured sponsorship of US$250 per player that will go towards their entry fees, which after the deduction will be US$1,250.

Commenting on the new developments, OneAsia president and chief executive officer Kuma Krishna Muthuraja said: “One of the five pillars of OneAsia is to develop and nurture our players and this wholly supports our endeavours to help creating a Tour that develops the game of golf in the Asian region.

“The sponsor, who is an avid lover of the game from the region believes that OneAsia, being an independent Tour with no encumbrance in any way from the past and without any external forces influencing it, will safeguard the interests of the players in the region and the game for Asia.”

Muthuraja also said they reached agreement with Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam as the official hotel of the OneAsia 2018 Qualifying School.

“Concorde Hotel has worked with us to provide accommodation and value for money for both our local and international players. Not least, it is within close proximity to the tournament venue and only a 45-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)”.

Concorde Hotel director of sales & marketing Amilia Alias added: “As an award-winning hotel in the heart of Shah Alam, OneAsia came to us to see how we could offer their golfers a suitable venue with ease of access, comfortable rooms and an array of food and beverage options.

“I am sure they will all have a memorable stay with us”.
