Pact with Oxford Brookes University

-

KDU College Damansara Jaya has formed a partnership with Oxford Brookes University.

A ceremony was held at its campus to celebrate that it will once again be offering the Bachelor of Laws 2+1 twinning programme with the university.

The twinning programme is only made available at KDU College Damansara Jaya in Malaysia.

Two senior representatives from the university’s School of Law in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, senior lecturer Dr Chieh Huang and principal lecturer (Student Experience) and programme lead (Law) Dr Shirley Shipman were present to speak on the uniqueness of the twinning programme with KDU students.

“One of the unique elements of this programme is the support mechanism that is provided by the institution in order to ease the transition process of students from KDU to Oxford Brookes University.

“Both KDU and Oxford Brookes University offer specialised support. These include seminar tutors or lecturers allocating office hours for students to consult them personally, including psychological support related to the teaching and learning process,” said Dr Huang.

This will enable students to attain a seamless learning experience without the hassle of adapting to the new environment abroad, she added.

Dr Shipman said Oxford Brookes University has set up a peer mentoring programme to help students to overcome the challenge of culture shock.

This, she added, includes focus- ing more on getting to know the university, computer systems and understanding the library system.

This programme is recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board and means that students will be eligible to proceed to the Bar Professional Training Course or the Legal Practice Course in the UK.

Upon completion of the 2+1 twinning programme, students will be awarded an LLB from Oxford Brookes University.

Also present at the launching ceremony were the top management from KDU University College comprising vice-chancellor Prof Dr Hiew Pang Leang, deputy vice-chancellor (Academic) Assoc Prof Dr Hon Wei Min and chief marketing officer Sheikh Fahmy Sheikh Mohamed.
