‘My priority is safety and security of people and country’

KUALA LUMPUR: IGP Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun says his priority is to ensure the safety and security of the people and country.

Asked whether his job was in jeopardy following Pakatan Harapan’s general election triumph, he said: “I really don’t know ... I am only doing my job.”

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has said that several heads would roll, hinting that AttorneyGeneral Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali would be replaced.

I really don’t know (about my job status) ... I am only doing my job. Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun

This has led to speculation that the IGP could be among those in the line of fire.

Mohamed Fuzi said his only focus was to fulfil the responsibilities entrusted to him as IGP.

“On other matters, I cannot comment,” he said yesterday.

Mohamad Fuzi succeeded Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar as IGP on Sept 4 last year following the latter’s retirement.

Prior to being appointed the country’s top cop, Mohamad Fuzi was the Bukit Aman Special Branch director and the Counter Terrorism Task Force director.

On Saturday, Dr Mahathir said the country presently “has no attorneygeneral”.

He said several names were being considered for the post.

Meanwhile, DAP legal bureau chief and Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo called on Apandi to step down as attorneygeneral as the new PM had expressed no confidence in him.

He said he was of the view that it was untenable for Apandi to remain in his post.

“It is quite clear that the PM expressed no confidence in him by saying there is no AG in the country now.

“Dr Mahathir has also said in no uncertain terms that he is of the view that there is basis for a probe into the manner in which the 1MDB case was dealt with,” Gobind said in a statement yesterday.
