PETALING JAYA: They may be very much in the public eye but being a mother appears to be their biggest role.

For PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, she proclaimed that the “greatest joy” in her life is being a mother to her two children Safiyah and Harith.

“On this Mothers Day, I want all of us to extend our concern and care to children everywhere.

“Our nation’s greatness rests on how we treat and protect our younglings,” said Nurul in a Twitter post.

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh shared a sweet painting done by her daughter.

The girl drew a colourful picture of a queen, accompanied by a note that said: “To the one that win (sic) the election. Happy Mom’s Day!”

Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin, who has just become a mother, shared a family photo with husband Datuk Seri Khalid Mohamad Jiwa and daughter Siti Aafiyah Khalid.

“Husband took me to a Mother’s Day lunch, baby Aafiyah followed too. Thank you, my love. It is the most meaningful Mother’s Day in my life. I love you, Aafiyah,” said Siti in an Instagram post.

Former beauty queen Elaine Daly said she had never imagined living the life she has now.

“I have always been so career-driven, reaching for almost impossible goals and having had much success come my way,” said Daly.

“Life still has its share of ups and downs but I couldn’t be happier because I’ve been given a chance to be a mother,” she said in an Instagram post.

Daly said she felt grateful and blessed to be a mother to two-yearold daughter Eva.

“To have this little girl come into our lives, to fill my heart with so much joy and to finally learn unconditional love,” she said.

Her daughter, she said, loves her “to the moon and back”.

She said that she is ready to welcome her second child with her husband Dr Nick Boden “anytime soon”.

“This goes out to all the mamas out there who understand the daily struggle but we still do it because we love being mothers, and it’s the best role we’ve played to date,” said Daly.

Social activist Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir gave a shout-out to the Prime Minister’s wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali – who is also her mother.

“Happy Mother’s Day to my Mummy! And to all the awesome Mummies out there,” said Marina on her Twitter page.
