Fate of Perak Umno reps to be decided tomorrow
IPOH: Perak Umno will meet tomorrow to decide on the fate of its two assemblymen whose support for Pakatan Harapan enabled the latter to form the state government.
State Umno deputy chief Datuk Saarani Mohamad said the duo concerned would however not be called for the meeting.
The identities of the two assemblymen have not been officially revealed, but were identified as former state exco members Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin and Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohd Radzi, who retained their Sungai Manik and Tualang Sekah seats respectively.
A Malay daily quoted Zainol Fadzi as admitting that he and Nolee were the ones who signed a declaration of support for Pakatan.
Zainol Fadzi was reported to have said that he had done so in the interest of his constituents.
“I asked nothing for their support,” he was quoted as having said.
He said although he and Nolee declared support for Pakatan, they had not crossed over.
“I will explain the issue to my constituents,” he was quoted as saying.
In a Facebook posting on Saturday night, Nolee insisted that she had not jumped ship.
Nolee said she made her move after realising that a stalemate between Barisan, Pakatan and PAS would not do the state and its people any good.
The support of the two Umno assemblymen for Pakatan enabled it to form the state government on Saturday, with state Pakatan chief Ahmad Faizal Azumu sworn in as Mentri Besar.
Ahmad Faizal is said to be Nolee’s brother-in-law.
