Mohamad Nordin set to take over as Jakim head

PUTR AJAYA: Malaysian Islamic Developmen­t Department (Jakim) deputy director-general (Policy) Datuk Mohamad Nordin Ibrahim (pic) has been appointed as the new director-general effective May 17.

He will replace Tan Sri Othman Mustapha whose contract ends the day before.

Mohamad Nordin, 58, received his education at Klang Islamic College in Selangor before pursuing a degree in Islamic Studies (Usuluddin) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1982 and Master’s Degree in Islamic Civilisati­on at the same university in 2000.

He had also pursued a leadership programme at Oxford University in Britain in 2013.

Mohamad Nordin began his career in the public service when he was appointed as Islamic Affairs officer on Jan 31, 1984.

In a statement yesterday, Othman said Mohamad Nordin had vast experience in Islamic affairs management due to his 34 years of service.

“With his credibilit­y, knowledge and extensive experience in Islamic affairs manage- ment, plus the high level of integrity that he possesses, I believe he is capable of pursuing the mission and vision of Jakim to continue providing best service to the people,” he said.

Othman also expressed his appreciati­on to the Government for holding the post over the past seven years.
