Remain united and strong in facing ‘dark times’, Umno members told.

PUTRAJAYA: Any action on civil servants or changes involving key government positions will be done according to the law, says Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said he had met all ministry secretaries-general and directors-general to explain the new Pakatan Harapan government’s policies and action that can be taken against civil servants.

“I also warned them if they are involved in any cases, they will be investigated by those responsible,” he told a packed press conference yesterday.

The Pakatan coalition led by Dr Mahathir formed the government after a stunning victory in the 14th General Election that ended the 61-year rule of Barisan Nasional.

Three ministerial positions have already been announced: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Home Minister, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng as Finance Minister and Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu as Defence Minister.

PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has also been named Deputy Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister said adherence to the law was of the highest importance in the Government’s actions concerning its line-up and civil servants.

“The Government will follow all the current rules of law.

“We will not undermine it or go astray from it.

“We will not simply remove or demote or suspend.

“All will be done according to the rules,” he said.

The meeting on the implementation of 10 promises in 100 days, involving ministry secretaries-gen- eral and directors-general, was held at the Perdana Leadership Foundation, which houses Dr Mahathir’s office as the foundation’s honorary president.

Dr Mahathir arrived at the foundation in a black Proton Perdana at 9.10am.

Earlier, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa’s official car was also seen arriving at about 8.30am.

Dr Mahathir noted at the press conference that Dr Ali had updated him on progress made in the Government’s fight against corruption.
