Ex-intelligence director lodges report against Najib

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A former high-ranking graft buster has lodged a report against Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and possible accomplices and abettors.

Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) director of intelligence and investigation Datuk Abdul Razak Idris lodged the report against ex-prime minister Najib over allegations that he abused his position to obtain gratification and owned unexplained properties.

“We also suspect that the former prime minister, with the assistance of other civil servants, had taken steps to prevent or stop the investigations regarding cases involving Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) and 1MDB,” Abdul Razak told reporters outside the MACC office here yesterday before lodging the report.

“With this report, we believe that we can urge the MACC to take swift action to investigate the allegations and also get the former prime minister and his family members to declare their assets.

“Financial institutions will also have to furnish details regarding the assets and this should be compared with their legitimate emoluments,” he said.

Abdul Razak added that he was also considering lodging a police report under Sections 217 and 218 of the Penal Code, against certain public servants for allegedly saving a person from punishment or property from forfeiture.

Abdul Razak said it was a “former boss” who urged him to lodge the report but declined to name the individual.

“Some are worried about me for boldly coming out to lodge a report, but it’s all right, I’m already 69 years old,” said Abdul Razak.

Asked why he only decided to lodge a report now, Abdul Razak claimed it would have been of no use earlier because no action would have been taken.

He added that many reports had been lodged previously but “certain people” saved the ones implicated.

He thanked the Inspector-General of Police for being professional in maintaining order after the general election, and “this made me come forward to lodge this MACC report”.

Abdul Razak also revealed that he was sacked from Umno shortly before polling day after being a member for more than 30 years.

He received a WhatsApp message telling him that he was sacked but no reasons were provided.

He had earlier resigned from the Umno disciplinary board last month.

“I was sacked before the elections because of my campaign (against the party). Although the message did not give any reasons, I know why and I expected it,” he said.
