KUALA TERENGGANU: New Mentri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar clocked in for work, the first professional and non-ustaz to helm a PAS state government. On his first day, the former head of Universiti Putra Malaysia’s aerospace department vowed that his administration would not be the same as that run by PAS in 1999.

“I do not want to compare today with the administration in 1999 as the environment was different then.

“With social media and wider Internet reach, we are now in a different era.

“We want to move forward. What was in the past, we will learn from it and improve ourselves today.

“There are things we need to reinvent, such as how we approach and settle things today,” he told reporters after clocking in for duty at Wisma Darul Iman here yesterday.

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results,” added the Rhu Rendang assemblyman, paraphrasing a saying often attributed to physicist Albert Einstein.

The Terengganu Mentri Besar for the PAS state government from 1999 to 2004 was party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

For now, the aerospace scientist said his administration would not be seeking to impose drastic chang-

es in the early stages.

“Our biggest objective is to ensure that any disruption to the administration will be at the lowest level,” he said, adding that the 10 state exco members sworn in would know their portfolios by tomorrow.

After clocking in, Dr Ahmad Samsuri and the state exco members performed solat hajat prayers, which were led by Abdul Hadi.

He then gave his first briefing to government staff.
