BN supreme council holds first meeting after GE14

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Barisan Nasional supreme council held its first meeting after the conclusion of GE14, which saw the coalition conducting a postmortem on their dismal performance in the elections.

The meeting was chaired by Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is assuming the duties of Barisan chairman following the resignation of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Saturday.

Component party leaders, including MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, Barisan Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Dr James Masing, attended the meeting last night.

Liow said Barisan needed to undergo the postmortem to figure out what had happened and MCA would also do the same.

“Barisan is still intact even though some parties had announced their departure from the coalition.

“Those who are still with Barisan must face this trying time together,” he added.

“After the MCA central committee meeting, I will announce to the press on how the party plans to move forward,” he said.

Dr Subramaniam assured the people that MIC is still with Barisan.

“But we feel that Barisan has to reform to meet current challenges. We will see if the reforms can hap pen so that we can become relevant again,” he said.

We also want to see how we can be an effective Opposition,” he added.

Barisan Wanita chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the movement remained committed to continue serving the people.

“Even though we are no longer the government, serving the rakyat will be our priority,” she said.
