KLANG: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has promised not to interfere in the state’s administration – as long as it proceeds well.

“However, in the event that the people’s interests are not taken care of, the environment is not protected and the development is imbalanced, I will use the power vested in me to reprimand and correct the state administration,” he said in his speech during the swearing-in ceremony of the state’s new exco members at Istana Alam Shah here yesterday.

He reminded the exco members and other elected representatives to always cooperate with civil servants so that the state’s administration could be carried out smoothly and effectively.

The Sultan also urged the elected representatives to make good their promises to the voters, adding that they were chosen in the hope that the people’s interest would be taken care of.

The people, he said, clearly knew what they wanted and needed because they could seek information from a sophisticated media system.

“Elected representatives must be careful and carry out your duties responsibly and not deceive the people who elected you,” said Sultan Sharafuddin, urging them to stay away from corruption.

The Ruler also directed the exco members and assemblymen to help Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali administer Selangor as well as carry out their duties.

“Exco members and assemblymen must carry out their duties as governed by the stipulated rules, laws and guidelines.

“Don’t ever break these laws or do something for self-interest,” said Sultan Sharafuddin, calling for an immediate stop in the dissemination of fake news and slander.

He said he was saddened that the Malay community remained divided due to differing political ideologies.

“I truly hope and pray that the Malay Muslim community can unite again for the sake of religion, race and country,” he said, express- ing his hope that the state’s multiracial community remained harmonious and united with tolerance and mutual respect for everyone.

Of the 10 people sworn in as exco members, only Datuk Teng Chang Khim (DAP-Bandar Baru Klang), Amirudin Shari (PKR-Sungai Tua) and V. Ganabathirau (DAP-Kota Kemuning) are old faces.

The new exco members are Ha- niza Mohamed Talha (PKR-Lembah Jaya), Ng Sze Han (DAP-Kinrara), Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin (PKR-Seri Setia), Hee Loy Sian (PKR-Kajang), Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud (AmanahSeri Serdang), Izham Hashim (Amanah-Pandan Indah) and Datuk Ab dul Rashid Asari (Pribumi-Selat Kelang).

Their portfolios are expected to be announced by Azmin today.
