‘Good policies from former state administration to stay’

IPOH: Good policies and initiatives of the previous Barisan Nasional government will not be abolished, says new Perak Mentri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

He said policies and initiatives that help the needy will also go on.

“And if these can be improved, we will do so.

“We need to stop politicking. We need to get everyone in to think how we can continue to develop Perak,” he told reporters after a briefing with state department heads on his first day at the State Secretariat building here yesterday.

On Yayasan Bina Upaya, a state welfare arm that is among the Barisan government’s initiatives, Ahmad Faizal said it was not directly under the state government but received assistance from the state.

“I think it is a good initiative, one that is meant to help the poor and the needy.

“I’ll contact them to see what we can do to move forward,” he added.

Ahmad Faizal said his focus was on fulfilling Pakatan Harapan’s responsibilities and its manifesto.

“Based on the approved state budget, there seems to be no problem implementing the initiatives listed in our manifesto.

“Maybe, there will be some adjustments. We will discuss and find ways to fulfil these,” he said.

Ahmad Faizal also said the state exco line-up is expected to be ready by this week.

He said discussions between Pakatan component parties are now ongoing to finalise seats and portfolios.

“The allocation and composition of exco seats will be discussed.

“I think there will not be much difference from the previous administration.

“We can estimate the composition by the number of seats each party has,” he said, adding that the complete list would then be presented to Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah for consent.
