KUALA TERENGGANU: In a gentlemanly gesture, former Terengganu mentri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman visited Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar to formally hand over duties.

The state Barisan Nasional chairman went to his old workplace in Wisma Darul Iman and spent about half an hour with Dr Ahmad Samsuri.

Upon arrival, the two rival politicians shared a warm embrace as Ahmad Razif congratulated his successor.

They then signed a document, symbolising that Ahmad Razif has officially passed over his duties to Dr Ahmad Samsuri.

“This is a historic moment. I appreciate Datuk Seri Razif ’s gesture. His presence here today shows that we can be rivals in politics and have different ideologies but ultimately, we only want the best for the people of Terengganu,” Dr Ahmad Samsuri said during the meeting.

The first-time assemblyman of Ru Rendang, added that the friendliness was in line with the mature and constructive politics that PAS constantly promotes.

In the recently concluded GE14, PAS emerged victorious in Terengganu after win- ning 22 seats against Barisan’s 10.

Dr Ahmad Samsuri, who is PAS election director and political secretary to party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, was sworn in as Terengganu Mentri Besar on May 10.

Ahmad Razif, who retained his Seberang Takir seat, said he would have no problem helping or providing advice to the new administration if necessary.

“As the state Barisan chairman, we accept this result with an open heart. The election season is over so it is now time to move forward.

“I’d like to congratulate the new Mentri Besar and the new exco members on their appointment as well as PAS for its election victory,” he said.

Ahmad Razif became Mentri Besar in 2014, replacing Datuk Seri Ahmad Said.
