Shuttlers get confidence boost with blue suits

PETALING JAYA: Thomas and Uber Cup Finals-bound shuttlers will leave for Bangkok, Thailand in blue suits and in style.

Thanks to a sponsor, they will be smartly dressed when they fly to Bangkok tomorrow. The Finals start on Sunday.

Team captain Lee Chong Wei said all players were fired up after ending their five-day intensive centralise­d training programme yesterday at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM).

“The suit is sponsored and it’s specially designed for the players and coaches,” said Chong Wei, the skipper of the Thomas Cup squad.

“The teams are ready. All players are fired up to give their best for the country. Others may rule us out but we’re determined to give a good show,” said Chong Wei.

The others in the men’s team are Lee Zii Jia, Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, Leong Jun Hao, Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Teo Ee Yi and Mohd Arif Abdul Latif.

Uber Cup skipper Vivian Hoo said: “It feels good to look good.

“It gives us confidence as we head to the Finals.”

The others in the team are Soniia Cheah, Goh Jin Wei, Lee Ying Ying, S. Kisona, Lee Meng Yean-Chow Mei Kuan, Soong Fie Cho-Tee Jing Yi and Goh Yea Ching.

Yesterday, the Malaysian squads led by juniors Jun Hao and Jin Wei, read out a pledge in unison to give their best.

Badminton Associatio­n of Malaysia (BAM) president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria also handed over the national flag to Chong Wei and Vivian and urged them to fight all out.
