Wednesday night was tiring but worth it, says Anwar

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of media personnel camping outside Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s residence here in Segambut Dalam was noticeably smaller than the droves waiting for him to be released from prison the day before.

Some of them began waiting before 8am yesterday, and their patience was rewarded when the PKR leader opened his window to tell them that he was going to meet Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He later left the house with his daughter, PKR vice-president and Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah.

“Last night was tiring but worth it,” said Anwar when asked about his ceramah the night before at Padang Timur in Petaling Jaya, before the Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting at Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Pribumi) headquarters in the Yayasan Selangor building.

They were later followed by Deputy Prime Minister and Pandan MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who headed out with her own escorts to the same destination.

Anwar was given a full pardon by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V after being whisked from the Cheras National Rehabilitation Centre. He gave his first full press conference at his residence.

Anwar expressed full support for Dr Mahathir and Dr Wan Azizah’s leadership and said he was not seeking an immediate return to politics, although he would keep an eye on developments and be in regular contact with Dr Mahathir.
