KUALA LUMPUR: One of the Special Branch officers named in a police report made by the wife of abducted Perlis activist Amri Che Mat was known to the superior of the investigating officer of the case, a public inquiry heard.

Asst Supt Roslan Remeli of the Perlis Criminal Investigation Department D9 unit said he and Perlis Special Branch officer Asst Supt Razman Ramli were once in a police squad together.

“I knew him when I first entered the police force,” he told a hearing of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia on the disappearance of Pastor Raymond Koh, Amri, and Pastor Joshua Hilmi and his wife Ruth Sitepu.

ASP Roslan claimed there was no discussion between ASP Razman and him on the case involving Amri.

“He never talked to me about this case nor did we have any discussion about it,” he said.

Amri’s wife, Norhayati Mohd Ariffin, had alleged that ASP Razman was among the Special Branch officers who monitored Amri before his abduction in Kangar on Nov 24, 2016.

ASP Roslan is the superior of Kangar police headquarters investigating officer Khor Yi Shuen, who is in charge of Amri’s case.

Asked who supervised ASP Razman’s work, ASP Roslan said he did not know as this concerned another division.

ASP Roslan also said he did not know any of the other Special Branch men mentioned in the police report, nor the whistleblower who purportedly claimed that the Special Branch was involved in the abduction of Amri.

On Wednesday, Norhayati claimed that the same Bukit Aman Special Branch team which purportedly abducted her husband was the one which also abducted Koh for supposedly having proselytised people.

She said she was informed about the involvement of Special Branch personnel from a whistleblower in the Special Branch.

Koh was grabbed from his car by a group of masked men along Jalan SS4B/10 in Petaling Jaya while on his way to a friend’s house on Feb 13, 2017.

Amri left his home in Kangar in his SUV but never returned that night on Nov 24, 2016. His vehicle was later found with the windscreen smashed.

Hilmy and Ruth were reported missing in March 2017 although the motive behind their abduction is not known.
