IPOH: An oil palm estate supervisor could only hear the painful screams of his nephews and niece on his mobile phone as they were slashed to death by a man who ran amok at their house in Kampung Sungai Haji Muhamad, Selekoh, Bagan Datuk.

The man, who only wanted to be known as Zul, 38, said the children’s mother and his cousin Zuraidah Md Ali, 35, had called him for help during the 2pm incident on Thursday.

“My house was nearby. As my cousin called for help, I could hear my nephews and niece screaming and crying for help.

“Their voices then faded in the background and then dead silence,” he said when met at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital mortuary yesterday.

Zul said he rushed over to the house and saw a parang-wielding man exiting it with blood on his pants.

“It was only when he left that I entered the house and I saw the children lying in a pool of blood,” he said.

Three siblings – Nur Ziah Fasihah Mohd Fadzil, two, Muhammad Firash Zaffril, three, and Mohammad Faqhqih Zahirulhaq, five – died in the house during the attack while Zuraidah had her right thumb severed and left wrist slashed.

The killer then went to a nearby school and attacked the sibling’s nine-year-old sister Nur Zuryn Faziera, who suffered injuries to her right hand and head.

Zul said the family had just celebrated Nur Zuryn Faziera’s birthday on Wednesday night.

“Their father Mohd Fadzil Mohammad, 32, collapsed a few times since yesterday,” he added.

“He is still traumatised by the whole incident.”

Zul also said that the murderer and Mohd Fadzil worked together at his oil palm plantation.

“Both of them are good friends since young. I’ve never heard anything about them fighting prior to this,” he said.

Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Marzukhi Mohd Mokhtar said that apart from the family, a friend of Nur Zuryn Faziera and a 40-year-old teacher were also attacked and injured at the school.

“All the injured victims are being treated at the Teluk Intan Hospital,” he said.

ACP Mohd Marzukhi said the suspect had no record of mental illness and that the case was being investigated for murder.

“The man tested positive for methamphetamine and ganja,” he said.

“We initially suspected that he was hallucinating but his actions proved otherwise, as he knew who he wanted to find.”

At the mortuary, Mohd Fadzil cut a dispirited and forlorn figure as he waited to claim his children’s bodies.

Family members and immediate relatives were at the mortuary since 9am, some comforting Mohd Fadzil with hugs and words.
