Sabah to probe 121 GE14 reports

These are the urgent cases, say police

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police have opened 121 investigation papers on elections-related cases lodged between April 7 and May 17.

These include cases of giving or offering of money, destroying of election machinery or items and slander, said Sabah CID chief Senior Asst Comm Jauteh Dikun.

“The investigation papers are from a total of 281 reports received statewide,” he said.

SAC Jauteh said the remaining reports would be looked into later as the police would need to focus on cases with complete information and were more urgent.

He said that based on the reports, Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu and Semporna topped the list of most cases investigated.

From this, a majority of them (19) involved the destruction or vandalising of electionrelated materials, followed by slander or personal attacks (10), and six cases of incidences involving giving or receiving election money, he added.

One man has been arrested for election-related offences.

The suspect, who is from Bongawan, Papar, was picked up on May 1 for impersonating a policeman.

SAC Jauteh said the man claimed that he was dressed as a policeman, so that it would be easy for him to manage the traffic and parking for a function at the area during that time.
