Couple nabbed for promoting liquid ganja on Facebook

A COUPLE have been detained by police for promoting and selling ganja in liquid form via Facebook, Kosmo! reported.

The 36yearold man and 37yearold woman even had a Ramadan “promotion” from May 1 until June 1, the paper added.

Police also seized compressed ganja leaves weighing around 300g, as well as 24 small bottles and 97 syringes containing liquid ganja weighing 2.3kg.

Also confiscated were a rice cook er and four plastic containers of ethanol.

Selangor Narcotics CID chief Asst Comm Amarjit Singh Cher Singh said the couple would soak the ganja in ethanol and then cook it using the rice cooker to process the liquid.

The market value of the drugs seized was estimated to be around RM45,000.

> The Negri Sembilan Islamic Affairs Department (JHEAINS) will form a task force to manage Islamic treatment centres, as well as traditional and complementary medicine, reported Harian Metro.

A JHEAINS spokesman advised all premises offering such treatments to obtain an endorsement letter from the department.

Practitioners also need to have a syariahcompliant certificate.

The department will also raid suspicious treatment centres and monitor the practice of silat in the state.

State Mufti Datuk Mohd Yusof praised the setting up of the task force.

On April 27, a man died after he was beaten up by a group of “traditional medical healers” in a treatment process after he complained of being disturbed by a spirit for a year.

He was punched, kicked and stepped on by three men and two women, who claimed to be healers, until his ribs broke.
