Rosman will use Finals to gauge women’s doubles pairs
THE Uber Cup Finals is one of the platforms for women’s doubles head coach Rosman Razak to find a pair for the future.
Malaysia will be represented by scratch pair Vivian Hoo-Goh Yea Cheng, Lee Meng Yean-Chow Mei Kuan, Tee Jing Yi-Soong Fie Cho and four singles players – Soniia Cheah, Goh Jin Wei, Lee Ying Ying, S. Kisona – in the Finals starting tomorrow at the Impact Arena, Bangkok.
Malaysia are drawn in Group D with defending champions China, Indonesia and France.
Malaysia will play Indonesia on Monday and need to beat them to keep their hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals alive.
Only the top two teams will advance to the elimination round.
Rosman plans to make a change in the women’s doubles after the World Championships in Nanjing, China, in August.
Vivian-Khe Wei, who have qualified for the world meet, have stagnated although they have produced good results in some tournaments.
Khe Wei is also bugged by injuries and that has hampered her progress.
“I’ve 14 doubles players but six are here and I’ll try out a few combinations. I’ve assessed the strength of our opponents and I may field a few scratch pairs,” said Rosman.
“The women’s doubles department have not made changes in partnership over four years.
“It’s time to change and form pairs that are better than now. All the players are aware of this.
“I’ve a few more months to continue experimenting with the partnerships.
“Hopefully, I’ll see a few potential ones in this Uber Cup.”
