Khairuddin finally gets to lodge FBI report over 1MDB

PETALING JAYA: After a threeyear wait, former Umno official Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan has managed to file a report with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation against Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.

Khairuddin, a former Batu Kawan Umno division chief, said in a statement on his Facebook page that he filed the report with the FBI against “Najib and his accomplices” on May 12 at the agency’s headquarters in New York.

Khairuddin was previously unable to do this in 2015 as he was arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) before he could leave the country for the US. He said he had also written to US President Donald Trump while he was at the FBI office.

In his letter to Trump, Khairuddin told him of Najib’s alleged wrongdoings which included misappropriating Government finances and the people of Malaysia’s money.

Khairuddin said he had also filed a police report in Sydney on Feb 26 against Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Ltd (ANZ) for not informing Malaysian law enforcement authorities and for allowing the RM2.6bil in Najib’s personal bank account to be transferred to Singapore.

He said he made a report with the Attorney-General’s Chambers in Switzerland on April 7.

Khairuddin said he was relieved that the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) were finally taking action over the reports he made in 2014.

“Under the new Pakatan Harapan government, enforcement agencies in Malaysia no longer have to close the case investigating this financial scandal,” he said.

A US Embassy official said any questions on the 1MDB case should be directed to the US Department of Justice.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Malaysia Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Putrajaya yesterday.

In a posting on the US Embassy’s Facebook page, the Ambassador said she congratulated Dr Mahathir and Pakatan Harapan on the coalition’s momentous general election victory.

Former Petrosaudi executive Xavier Andre Justo was also spotted by reporters at the Perdana Leadership Foundation.

The 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) saga whistleblower was seen leaving the foundation at 2pm, after an hour of his arrival.

He did not stop to speak to reporters stationed outside.

It is the second time in two days Justo had met Dr Mahathir, following their meeting on Sunday.

Justo is said to have shared internal information on 1MDB with Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle Brown.
