KUALA LUMPUR: Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has lodged a police report over the 2006 murder of Altantuya Shariibuu, urging the authorities to reopen the case and look into the motive.

Lim, who is from DAP, claimed that both the High Court and Federal Court had failed to establish the motive behind the murder or the identity of the person who ordered the act.

He said that one of the two former policemen convicted of the murder in 2009 – Sirul Azhar Umar – had expressed his willingness to reveal what happened.

“His statement should be recorded. The people responsible for Altantuya’s murder should be charged with abetting the murder,” Lim said after lodging the report at the Jinjang police station yesterday.

This came after Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Bukit Aman had not reopened the case, adding that there were no grounds to do so because no new police reports were lodged.

Sirul, along with Azilah Hadri, was convicted of murdering Altantuya and sentenced to death but he later fled to Australia.

Sirul, who is now in Australian custody, claimed that he was ordered by “important people” to murder the 28-year-old Mongolian and was willing to reveal what happened if given a full pardon.

Altantuya is believed to have been shot dead before her body was blown up with explosives at a secondary forest near the Subang Dam in Puncak Alam, Shah Alam, in 2006.

Former political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda, who was charged with the two policemen, was freed on Oct 31, 2008.

On another issue, Lim claimed that 25% of the land sold by City Hall – 16 out of 64 parcels – went to a single property developer for RM785mil for 37.24ha.

Two other companies, he said, were also involved in deals totalling five parcels at RM858.36mil and four at RM68.17mil.

“The company that was sold the five parcels of land is actually a textile firm,” he said.

On May 16, Lim filed a complaint with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, urging a probe into the Federal Territories Foundation’s involvement in land deals totalling 170ha and transactions worth RM4.28bil.
