‘Let’s break fast together’

Karangkraf: Celebrate a ‘new nation’ in true Malaysian spirit.
PETALING JAYA: In celebration of a “new Malaysia”, Karangkraf Media Group is opening its office doors to Muslims and non-Muslims alike for a unique three-day breaking of fast.
“For the past years, Malaysians have been fighting over political issues,” said Karangkraf group managing director Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub.
“It is high time we moved on, and so, we are organising a solidarity of ummah (community).”
From next Friday to Sunday (June 1-3), the company will provide food for up to 23,000 people during its Majlis Iftar Karangkraf/Sinar Harian at Dataran Karangkraf in Shah Alam.
The breaking of fast will be held picnic-style. Hussamuddin said the event was a recreation of the Ramadan festivities in Dataran Masjid Nabawi Madinah where all the roads towards the mosque will be closed in the evening. The mosque then lays out food for the public to feast together.
He said the picnic style was to encourage people to sit, eat and chat in celebration of a true “Malaysian way”.
“The food is not for the purpose of taking home, but to be consumed together,” Hussamuddin said.
“We want non-Muslims to join us in a show of unity, so we can celebrate how Muslims and non-Muslims live together harmoniously in Malaysia.”
During the event, Muslim guests can pray at the mosque located in Dataran Karangkraf.
Karangkraf anticipates 3,000 guests on Friday, and 20,000 attendees over Saturday and Sunday.
