’Don’t just talk, show us proof’

‘Show proof we’ll lose RM200bil with HSR cancelled’

Mahathir asks Umno to back up claims that Malaysia stands to lose RM200bil from scrapping the HSR mega project.

KUALA LUMPUR: Show proof that Malaysia stands to lose more than RM200bil if the Kuala LumpurSingapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project is cancelled, says Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“Show proof. When we said Malaysia has RM1 trillion debt, we have the documents to back it up.

“Don’t just talk, show us the proof,” he told reporters after attending a breaking of fast event at Bukit Aman yesterday.

Dr Mahathir was responding to Umno strategic communications unit spokesman Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan, who said with the cancellation of the project, Malaysia might stand to lose an estimated RM209bil in gross national income and the opportunity to create 70,000 jobs.

Asked about Singapore’s claims that the country has not been informed about the cancellation, Dr Mahathir said they have only informed the press but will inform Singapore.

On a social media post by former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak bidding farewell to his security detail, Dr Mahathir said he did not know about them being taken away.

He added that Najib is under police investigation and not entitled to special privileges accorded to a former prime minister.

“But if he is found innocent he will get the same treatment as other former prime ministers,” he said.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said it was not true that Najib’s security detail had been removed.

“Former prime ministers have certain privileges based on standard operating procedure.

In the Facebook post yesterday, Najib posted a photo of him giving a final salute to his team of security personnel.

Najib said his entire security detail has been withdrawn by the Government except for an aide-decamp.

“My family and I will never for- get their friendship, contributions and loyalty throughout the past nine years, and those who served us for 14 years from when I was still the deputy prime minister,” he added.
