Traders already moving towards zero-GST

-

KOTA KINABALU: Traders have told their teams to get right to work to make sure their goods will be zeroGST come June 1.

“Our management will be sending our IT (information technology) man to get the GST software out of our systems,” said electrical chain store manager Connie Yong

She said they were glad that there would be no more GST as it would reduce their prices and hopefully, lure more customers.

Yong said businesses had been affected by the 6% extra charge these few years and added it was lucky that all they needed to do now is change back their systems software and barcodes of all their items.

It is simple, she said adding that the workers will be busy for a month changing the necessary barcodes and price tags of the items in the store.

Another shopkeeper said their boss would also follow the government’s instructions to revert to the GSTfree system.

The shopkeeper who did not want to be named said their goods are sold with the GST included until June 1.

“If you want to buy things at a cheaper price, come after June 1,” she quipped.

However, there are already some businesses that have started selling their goods without the GST.

“Few more days only, never mind, I am not charging the GST anymore,” said Chin, who sells electrical items at the Karamunsing shopping complex here.

Customer Kelly Lian said she was happy to hear about the GST being abolished and hoped to see prices of goods come down.

Another customer, Basintil Musi said he would wait for June 1 to buy things so that he can enjoy the lower prices.
