Jamal set to meet cops today
Umno leader denies taking off before completion of bail
PETALING JAYA: After days of going under the radar, Sungai Besar Umno division leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos will finally meet the police today.
“I will present myself at the Ampang Jaya police headquarters around 2pm today,” said the politician in an audio recording to the media yesterday.
He maintained that he did not commit any crime when he disappeared from the hospital ward last Friday before his bail process was fully completed.
“I did not run away from the police. There has been a misunderstanding as I have stated before. To resolve this, I will go to the police,” he said.
Previously, Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor had said that Jamal should present himself to the police to settle unfinished business.
He added the police would take action against Jamal if he does not show up.
The 48-year-old politician was charged earlier with committing public nuisance by breaking bottles of alcohol in public to protest the Better Beer Festival 2017.
The offence carries a fine of RM400 upon conviction.
According to the charge sheet, Jamal allegedly committed the offence at the Bangunan Darul Ehsan which is the Selangor state secretariat at 10.15am on Oct 5, 2017.
Jamal pleaded not guilty in the hospital ward before magistrate Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin.
The court granted bail of RM3,000 in one surety and set June 8 for mention at the Shah Alam magistrate’s court.
