GEORGE TOWN: The children from Pusat Jagaan Permata Kasih could not believe their eyes when they looked out the glass window of Top View Restaurant and Lounge on Level 59 of Komtar.

It was their first time in Penang’s tallest building and the excitement shone through as they checked out the breathtaking view of the city.

“We didn’t know this building was so tall. The view is beautiful,” said Muhd Hateem Hamzah, 10, who was with his buddies Muhd Waqar Muhasim, nine, and Muhd Munir Inayatullah Taufik Redha, 10.

“It was thrilling to be here looking down at the streets. Everything on the road looks so small,” he said.

The food, he said, was delicious.

Their excitement did not stop there. The children were greeted by two life-sized dinosaurs at the entrance of the Jurassic Research Centre, which has more than 200 live-sized “animatronic” dinosaurs.

“I have not seen a dinosaur like this but I was not afraid.

“I got to touch them too,” said Muhd Waqar excitedly.

They were among 200 underprivileged kids and orphans who were treated to a buka puasa buffet dinner prepared by award-winning chefs on Friday.

Kiwanis Malaysia governor Dr Mario A. del Castillo said the underprivileged children were from seven homes in the state under the Kiwanis Club of Bukit Kiara and Penang Central.

Only World Group Holdings Bhd (OWG) founder and CEO Tan Sri Richard Koh said the treat was part of the group’s corporate social responsibility to reach out to less fortunate children.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow’s political secretary Teh Lai Heng, who was present, said he was glad to join them.

“It is great to see the kids enjoying themselves in the holy month,” he said, adding that The Top@Komtar has become an added attraction to Penang and praised them for their initiative.
