Jackie Chan leads poverty reduction drive in China
HONG Kong action superstar Jackie Chan will be leading a poverty alleviation programme in China, Sin Chew Daily reported.
Together with movie stars such as Fan Bingbing, Zhou Xun and Li Chen, they will be divided into teams to visit more than 10 impoverished districts in China.
They will then see how they can improve the livelihood of the poor.
“There are 30 million people who live in poverty in China. If every 10 people can help one person, we can resolve poverty very quickly,” Chan told a press conference.
“Hopefully someday, we can proudly say that there are no poor people in China.”
> The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Malaysia (ACCCIM) will be submitting proposals to the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) on ways to create a businessfriendly environment, Oriental Daily reported.
Its president Tan Sri Ter Leong Yap said the suggestions would also include how to lower the cost of doing business and ways to encourage investments.
“Our team has drafted the proposals and we will submit them to the CEP soon,” he said in his speech at a directors’ swearingin ceremony for North Perak Chinese Cham ber of Commerce and Industry.
> The producer of the horror flick Buyer Beware, mm2 Entertainment, said the company would be donating 10% of its nett Malaysian ticket sales to Tabung Harapan Malaysia, Sin Chew Daily reported.
The film will be screened in cinemas nationwide starting July 19.
Produced, written and directed by Jeffrey Chiang, the film is about an agent trying to sell a haunted house.
