MCA to reveal new leaders on Nov 4

Dr Wee ready to take the helm upon urging from party

PETALING JAYA: MCA will have a new line-up for its central leadership this Nov 4.

There will be a new president as Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai is not seeking re-election.

Deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said he was ready to helm the party after party leaders and members urged him to do so as he was the sole MP from MCA who won in the recent general election.

Talk is rife that MCA Youth chief Datuk Chong Sin Woon may go for the deputy president’s post.

MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan said the process involving MCA party elections would kickstart today.

He said all branches, divisions and state liaison committees should put on display the membership register at their respective premises from tomorrow until June 12.

“Any queries and complaints must be made in writing before June 14 with supporting documents addressed to MCA headquarters’ elections steering committee, which will then convene a meeting and take the appropriate action,” he said in a statement.

Ong, who is also the committee chairman, said the party elections would use the membership register as at Dec 31, 2015.

“MCA and its two wings at the branch level must send out the notice of assembly to all eligible members by June 28.

“This is to inform that nominations would be carried out on July 9,” he said, adding that a branch general assembly for Youth and Wanita wings would be held on July 14. The main one will be held on July 15.

Ong said the headquarters would send out on Aug 6 the list of delegates for the division, Youth and Wanita to conduct their general assembly and elections.

The nomination date is fixed on Aug 20 while the election dates are Aug 25 for Youth and Wanita, and Aug 26 for MCA.

State MCA Youth and Wanita MCA general assemblies are to be conducted on Sept 29 and Sept 30 respectively.

The annual general assembly for the new session will convene on Dec 1 for MCA Youth and Wanita MCA, and Dec 2 for MCA at Wisma MCA.
