Arrest warrant out for Jho Low

Former SRC International head and two others also sought by MACC

- Reports by JOSEPH KAOS JR, MARTIN CARVALHO and MICHELLE TAM

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has issued arrest warrants for Malaysian financier Low Taek Jho and former SRC International Sdn Bhd managing director Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil.

It is also preparing warrants for two others – former 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) chief executive officer Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi and Roger Ng, a former Goldman Sachs banker who left the firm in 2014, Bloomberg reported, quoting sources.

The summons for Low, also known as Jho Low, comes after the MACC recorded statements from former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor over its investigation into SRC International and the misappropriation of funds.

SRC International was created in 2011 by Najib’s administration to pursue overseas investments in energy resources and was a unit of 1MDB until it was moved to the Finance Ministry in 2012.

Low said he had instructed his lawyers to make contact with the MACC after he was made aware that they were seeking him for assistance, his representative said in an e-mailed statement.

Low, who previously said he did consulting work for 1MDB, is portrayed by some global investigators as a central figure behind some of the schemes involving missing funds at the state investment company.

He has denied any wrongdoing. Media reports have placed Low in various places around the world, including Thailand, Hong Kong and Australia.

It is unclear where Nik Faisal is. Tun Daim Zainuddin, who was appointed by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to help oversee the renewed 1MDB probe, said he “roughly” knew where Low was and had called for him to return.

MACC is calling on members of the public with knowledge of Low’s whereabouts to contact investigating officer Rosli Husain at 03-8870 0529 or 010-318 7757.

Low’s last known address is No. 69, Tanjung Bungah Park, Tanjung Bungah, Penang.

Nik Faisal’s last known address is No. 17 and No. 19, Jalan Tun Teja 35/16, Alam Impian, Shah Alam, Selangor.

The public can also e-mail roslihusain@sprm.gov.my or walk into any MACC office.
