WeChat Pay to be available in Malaysia soon

WeChat Pay will be made available in Malaysia soon, reported Kwong Wah Yit Poh.

Quoting sources, the Chinese daily said the e-wallet can be used nationwide on June 11 and the WeChat Angpau (red packets) denominate­d in ringgit will also be launched on the same day.

Malaysia will be one of the first markets outside China with the wallet localised to the ringgit.

Since June 5, WeChat users in Malaysia noticed there is a “wallet feature” in their apps.

It is understood that the full functions of the e-wallet will be delivered to the users in several stages.

There are about 20 million WeChat registered users in Malaysia.

Tencent Holdings Ltd announced in July last year that it has applied for a licence in Malaysia to offer local payment services via its WeChat Pay.

> The biographic­al film on national badminton icon, Lee Chong Wei: Rise Of The Legend, will be shown in China, Sin Chew Daily reported.

The film will be screened in Shanghai soon and will be available in cinemas across China later.

Lee will be visiting China to promote the film and meet his fans.

The movie hit cinemas on March 15 in Malaysia after a special early screening of the extended version on March 9 at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

> Hong Kong novelist and former sister-in-law of kung fu legend Bruce Lee, Eunice Lam Yin-nei, has passed away at the age of 75, reported China Press.

The novelist, who has a habit of spraying perfume on her writing paper, was said to have been diagnosed with lung cancer in 2016.

In Hong Kong, she was much remembered for her romance with renowned Canto-pop songwriter and lyricist James Wong Jim.
