GEORGE TOWN: Better things are to come for the Woo triplets as help continues to pour in for them.

The plight of the triplets, who were nearly split and put up for adoption, was highlighted in The Star yesterday.

Generous donors from near and far have been offering financial assistance since then.

The donors contacted social worker Lee Thuan Chye, who had set up a trust fund to care for the triplets until they turn 18.

The fund has seen RM1,000 being used monthly for the triplets’ education and personal needs for the past 10 years.

Lee has been receiving messages and calls asking for the fund’s banking details since yesterday morning.

He said among them was Rick Ng from Melbourne, Australia, who had requested the details to transfer cash.

“I also received a message from one of the largest rubber glove makers in the world, pledging to contribute RM20,000 from its foundation.

“The response has been really good after the children’s story was highlighted in the newspaper,” Lee said yesterday.

He believes that the contributions will enable him to continue helping the triplets.

“With RM1,000 monthly, I would need up to RM96,000 to support them until they turn 18 in 2026,” he said, adding that the children may also need more money once they start secondary school.

It was reported that after the triplets were born, their Indonesian mother Ely and father Woo Kwee Fatt were advised to put brothers Yu Fook and Yu Keong and their sister Yen Fong up for adoption, but the couple could not bear to see them parted.

Woo, who was 57 when they were born, was the family’s sole breadwinner with a meagre income as a coffeeshop helper.

Lee can be reached at 0124782 894.
