Overweight firemen in Sarawak ordered to get fit

OVERWEIGHT firefighte­rs in Sarawak must undergo a training programme to get fit again, Harian Metro reported.

State director Nor Hisham Mohammad said personnel with a body mass index (BMI) of more than 35 must undergo a special programme called “Let’s Get Fit to Fight Fire”.

Among others, they will have to undergo physical, motivation­al and calorie intake training.

“They will be given a year to reduce their BMI in accordance with their height and also undergo fitness tests, which will be conducted monthly,” said Nor Hisham.

> Two express bus drivers tested positive for drugs in a Road Transport Department (JPJ) operation ahead of Hari Raya celebratio­ns, Utusan Malaysia reported.

Terengganu JPJ director Abdul Rahman Emang Anyie said 270 bus drivers were checked during the operation, which started on June 1.

“The two drivers, aged 34 and 35, tested positive for methamphet­amine and were not allowed to continue driving,” he said.

Another express bus driver was caught for using a cellphone while driving.
