SEREMBAN: From special needs children who are learning to provide for themselves to reputable developers, more Malaysians are coming forward to do their bit for Tabung Harapan.

Matrix Concepts Holdings Bhd, which donated RM3mil to the fund last week, fulfilled its pledge to contribute an additional RM2mil to help the Government reduce the country’s debts.

Its chairman Datuk Mohamad Haslah Mohamad Amin said the company managed to raise the amount from its employees, contractors, suppliers and business associates in two weeks.

“Although Matrix has donated RM3mil, we decided to raise more to help the Government with its initiative,” he said after handing over a cheque for the amount to Mentri Besar Aminuddin Harun at Wisma Negri yesterday.

Touch Community Society chairman Dr Pushpa Devi Hukam Gopal Chand also handed over RM200 to Aminuddin, the amount raked in from the sale of cakes baked by the centre’s special needs children and young adults.

“We baked the cakes together and managed to sell 65, each priced at RM20.

“After deducting our expenses, we still had RM200 and we decided to do our bit for the country,” she said.

The society at Blossom Park here helps train 24 special needs children and young adults who suffer from autism, hearing problems, Down’s Syndrome and also those who are slow learners.

Dr Pushpa said parents and teachers helped the children and young adults bake the cakes and sell them via Facebook.

“The children and young adults know the funds were raised for a good cause and are extremely happy to personally hand over their donation,” she said.

Aminuddin commended Matrix as well as the Touch Community Society for the gesture.

“I hope more Malaysians will emulate Matrix and Touch Community Society and do their bit for our beloved country,” he added.
