Help rakyat to see the bigger picture with summary

- T.C. Lim Petaling Jaya

FOLLOWING Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) GE14 victory, many revelations have been made pertaining to the huge debts accumulated by the previous administration, not to mention the likelihood of largescale corruption.

This overwhelming abundance of information is coming out often on a piecemeal basis – from government and party channels as well as social and alternative media outlets. While we note the eagerness of the new administration under PH to be transparent – which is most welcome – the rakyat jelata, or common folk like us, can sometimes become lost in this sea of information.

While we understand that the revelation of too much information at this stage may jeopardise ongoing investigations and legal proceedings, I am sure that the disclosure of the basic information that has already been announced can be compiled and presented in a cohesive and structured manner.

In this respect, may I humbly request that the government or mainstream media prepare an easy-to-read executive summary for us common folk that, among others, covers the following:

> Listing of projects/ contracts valued at RM50mil and above (segregated into state and federal and its ministries);

> Nature and scope of the projects/ contracts;

> Project/contract value;

> Entities involved (contract awarders, contractors, approving authority, etc);

> Funding structure (equity and debt amount, amortization profile of debt);

> Source of repayment;

> Project/contract status;

> Preliminary investigations and updates + proposed actions (under MACC/PDRM/legal proceedings, etc);

> A flowchart or diagram;

> Final tally.

The list may need to be confined to projects that have been flagged as having “issues”. It would enable a Big Picture comprehension of the scale of the “problems” and how these issues are being addressed.

If for any reason the government is unable to do this, then the responsibility falls upon the media and civil society to undertake this compilation and presentation.

Yes, the rakyat needs to know but at the same time should not be confused.

I do not believe that this is too much to ask as the information is already out there and somebody just needs to put it all into perspective.

Such an executive summary should also be published by the PH government periodically to keep the public updated on new large projects initiated by them to prevent future incidences of corruption, plundering and fraud.
